Clayface Opens to $43 Million Worldwide as DC Tests a Smaller, Horror-Driven Strategy
DC Studios has a box-office winner, although not the kind traditionally associated with a comic-book franchise. Clayface opened with an estimated $24 million domestically and $43 million worldwide over the October 23–25 weekend. Directed by James Watkins and starring Tom Rhys Harries, the body-horror thriller has a reported production budget of approximately $40 million to $44 million. That combination offers a cautiously promising start for a film built on a very different scale from DC's superhero tentpoles.
