The Clone Wars usually looks enormous. Fleets, Jedi generals and whole planets make decisions measured in armies. Zero Company starts with people who have more immediate problems: Hawks is no longer a Republic officer, the company works for credits, several recruits have excellent reasons to dislike one another, and permanent death means the roster written at the beginning of the campaign may not be the roster that reaches the end.
In 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4 imagined warfare as a managed global business, with private military companies, controlled weapons and soldiers plugged into systems larger than any individual battlefield. Its politics were wrapped in the usual Metal Gear excess. The excess is still there in 2026. Some of the underlying vocabulary feels less remote.
A reboot usually has an awkward heritage problem: preserve too much and it becomes a museum piece, discard too much and the title starts doing most of the work. Playground Games has been negotiating that problem in public for years. Its Gamescom combat demo offers a useful answer.
