Sony Music takes Anthropic to court as Claude faces a potentially multi-billion-dollar copyright fight
The music industry's fight with generative AI has escalated again. Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell have sued Anthropic in California federal court, alleging that tens of thousands of copyrighted compositions were copied to build and train Claude. With statutory damages of up to $150,000 sought for each willfully infringed work, the theoretical exposure becomes enormous very quickly.
