Fable's Gamescom demo shows where Playground draws the line between reboot and inheritance
A reboot usually has an awkward heritage problem: preserve too much and it becomes a museum piece, discard too much and the title starts doing most of the work. Playground Games has been negotiating that problem in public for years. Its Gamescom combat demo offers a useful answer. Fable no longer fights like a game from Lionhead's era, but it still thinks in Strength, Skill and Will — and still believes turning an enemy into a chicken is a perfectly legitimate piece of RPG design.
