Astro Bot — Thirty Years of PlayStation Turned Into a Playground
Astro Bot succeeds as a PlayStation celebration because it would still work if half its references disappeared. The 150 launch cameos reward knowledgeable players, but the levels, visual comedy and precise platforming remain perfectly readable without that history. Team Asobi therefore moves Astro from charming hardware ambassador to genuine mascot capable of carrying his own adventure.

Tribute levels sometimes reinterpret real mechanics

The more obscure references inevitably leave some players behind
