Halo: Campaign Evolved: seeing Master Chief on PlayStation is almost stranger than returning to Halo

Halo: Campaign Evolved preserves the mystery, pacing and horror turn of a story that remains remarkably simple on paper. The remake occasionally loses some of Bungie's visual abstraction, but the ring itself remains an extraordinary setting and Operation: METEORITE suggests there are still stories worth telling around this era. Its true break with the past happens elsewhere: Master Chief officially arriving on PlayStation symbolically closes a quarter-century chapter of console warfare.

PROS

Installation 04 remains extraordinarily atmospheric
The Flood transition is still highly effective
New cinematics and dialogue respect the original

CONS

Master Chief remains intentionally underdeveloped in this first story
Visual realism occasionally reduces the original's mystery
