When Rosario Dawson introduced early Season 2 footage at Disney's Upfront presentation on May 12, her description was uncomplicated: bigger battles, higher stakes. The material shown to attending media included large-scale space action as well as lightsaber combat.

Thrawn can finally act instead of being discussed

That changes the shape of Ahsoka. Lars Mikkelsen's Grand Admiral spent much of the first season as an absent threat, with the search for him driving nearly everyone toward Peridea. The finale brought him back to the main galaxy.

Later footage shown at D23 made his next move clearer. Thrawn is rallying the Imperial remnant, while Ezra Bridger has made it home and is fighting alongside the New Republic. Eman Esfandi returns as Ezra, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead back as Hera Syndulla.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo also returns as Sabine Wren, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. The cast is effectively spread across two unfinished conflicts rather than chasing one destination.

Baylan's story will continue

Rory McCann is joining the series to carry forward the journey of Baylan Skoll, the former Jedi played by Ray Stevenson in Season 1. Stevenson died in May 2023, months before Ahsoka premiered.

The character was left in one of the finale's most deliberate cliffhangers. Baylan remained on Peridea, standing among enormous figures associated with the Mortis gods and apparently searching for something that the first season never identified.

Continuing that storyline also keeps Shin Hati's position unresolved. She ended the season separated from Baylan and surrounded by Peridea's raiders, while Ahsoka and Sabine were stranded elsewhere on the same world.

The show now has two sides of the galaxy to manage

That split gives Dave Filoni considerably more narrative ground to cover. Thrawn, Ezra, Hera and the New Republic can push the galactic conflict forward, while Ahsoka, Sabine, Baylan and Shin still have unfinished business on Peridea.

Other returning pieces are already known. Star Wars Celebration previously revealed that Zeb will appear in Season 2, while Admiral Ackbar is set for a larger role opposite Thrawn. Lucasfilm's newer teaser also puts Anakin back into Ahsoka's personal story, challenging his former Padawan over whether she still considers herself a Jedi.

The wait now has a fixed endpoint. Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 premieres January 20, 2027, exclusively on Disney+.
