Black Mirror Season 8 is officially in production, with filming having started during summer 2026.
There is no announced release window yet. Netflix has also kept the cast, episode count and individual stories under wraps, leaving the production status itself as the main new piece of information.
Brooker is back with Bisha K. Ali
Charlie Brooker is writing and executive producing the season alongside Bisha K. Ali. Jessica Rhoades, Annabel Jones and Louise Sutton are also executive producers, with Mark Kinsella serving as co-executive producer.
Brooker had already confirmed the show's return in January. At the time, he described the anthology as something he approaches almost like an album, looking for different tones and story types rather than forcing every episode into one definition of Black Mirror.
That description remains more useful than any speculation about Season 8. No episode premise has been officially disclosed.
Season 7 quietly changed what the anthology could be
The previous six-episode season arrived in April 2025 and ranged from subscription-based medical technology to artificial intelligence, simulated cinema, digital memories and virtual worlds.
It also produced the show's first direct sequel. USS Callister: Into Infinity returned to the crew introduced in the Season 4 episode USS Callister, breaking with the assumption that Black Mirror stories had to remain completely self-contained forever.
That does not mean another sequel is coming. Netflix has not announced any returning characters or episode continuations for Season 8.
The show has now been imagining bad futures for fifteen years
Black Mirror first aired on Channel 4 on December 4, 2011, before moving to Netflix for its third season. What started as three sharply contained British dramas has grown into one of streaming television's longest-running science-fiction anthologies.
Brooker joked earlier this year that the series would return just in time for reality to catch up with it. The line has become increasingly awkward in a useful way: Black Mirror now develops stories in a world where generative AI, subscription software, wearable devices and algorithmic feeds are ordinary products rather than distant speculative props.
Season 8 does not have a premiere date. It does, at least, have cameras rolling.
