Production is now underway on Guru, with Abraham leading a cast that also includes Danish Pandor, Arif Zakaria and Kitu Gidwani.

The film does not yet have an announced release date. Its international distribution plan and the supporting characters' roles also remain undisclosed.

The mystery begins inside the protagonist's head

The premise follows a man who gradually realizes that something about his life is wrong. What he remembers and what appears to be happening around him stop matching.

As increasingly strange events accumulate, he begins questioning both his own perception and the people he believes he can trust. Memory is therefore not just backstory here; it is one of the mechanisms generating the suspense.

Dasgupta has described the world of Guru as unsettling and has emphasized the combination of story, treatment and performance that attracted him to the project.

It gives Abraham a different kind of pressure

The casting is notable because the initial description does not frame the film primarily around Abraham's physical screen presence. Instead, his character has to carry uncertainty, vulnerability and the gradual collapse of his confidence in what he thinks he knows.

Abraham has said that the uncertainty at the center of the screenplay was what attracted him: if a person cannot trust memory, reality itself becomes questionable.

That can produce very different kinds of thriller. The film could genuinely restrict the audience to the protagonist's unstable point of view, or it could use unreliable memory mainly to hide information before a late reveal. Production has only just begun, so that distinction remains open.

Ribhu Dasgupta is returning to familiar territory

Dasgupta already has a substantial history with thrillers. His credits include Te3n, Netflix's Bard of Blood and the Hindi adaptation of The Girl on the Train.

Those projects repeatedly dealt with incomplete information, investigations and characters struggling to understand events around them. Guru appears to move that instability directly into its protagonist's perception.

The director has also said he had wanted to work with Abraham for some time and saw this screenplay as the project that finally made the collaboration fit.

Most of the supporting puzzle is still hidden

Danish Pandor, Arif Zakaria and Kitu Gidwani are the other confirmed cast members, but their characters have not been identified.

That leaves open an especially useful question for a story built around unreliable perception: which of them can actually be trusted.

Authum Entertainment, Shibasish Sarkar, JA Entertainment and Fusion Flicks are producing the film. Further major crew details have yet to be announced.

For now, Guru has moved from development into actual production with one clear dramatic promise: its protagonist may be the least reliable source of information in his own story.
