Deadline reports that Cameli is set for Brom Bones

Sources tell Deadline that Belmont Cameli is set to join Sony Pictures' Hollow as Brom Bones, with TheWrap subsequently reporting the casting as well. It is an important distinction that the news originates from trade reporting rather than a newly published Sony casting announcement.

The film itself is already well established. Sony landed the project in July with Sydney Sweeney attached to star as Katrina Van Tassel and filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer set to write and direct. Cameli would now take one of the two male roles surrounding Katrina in the story's central relationship.

The move follows Cameli's breakout as Garrett Graham in Prime Video's Off Campus. Brom Bones is considerably older literary territory: Washington Irving introduced the character as Ichabod Crane's rival in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Hollow, however, is deliberately changing who gets to occupy the center of that familiar configuration.

Katrina is no longer waiting at the edge of Ichabod's story

Sony's film is based on Beer's forthcoming debut novel Hollow rather than functioning as another straightforward screen adaptation of Irving's 1820 tale. Putnam is expected to publish the book in fall 2027, and Beer is adapting her own material for the screen.

Its defining change is perspective. Sweeney's Katrina Van Tassel is positioned as the protagonist rather than simply the object of affection contested by Ichabod and Brom. The project has been described as a dangerous mystery and supernatural love triangle combining gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue and erotic-thriller elements.

Cameli therefore fills another part of that structure, but not all of it. The producers are still looking for their Ichabod Crane, according to Deadline and TheWrap. Until that casting is reported, one of the film's three most consequential roles remains open.

Beer is adapting a story she has not published yet

Hollow also has a less common creative pipeline than the average studio literary adaptation. Beer is the author of the source novel, the screenwriter adapting it and the director expected to stage it. Her previous directing work includes Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, while her writing and producing credits span several studio and streaming projects.

LuckyChap is producing alongside Beer and her Lab Brew banner, as well as Sweeney through Honey Trap. Hollow is positioned as the first feature produced through Sweeney's newly launched company, which has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures.

That makes Sweeney more than the face of the project. She is attached as both Katrina and a producer, while Beer controls the transition from novel to screenplay to direction. Sony, meanwhile, has moved on the screen version before the underlying book reaches stores.

What the latest report does not provide is a confirmed theatrical date. Beer's novel is slated for fall 2027, but that publishing window should not be converted into a movie release date. For now, Hollow has its filmmaker, Katrina Van Tassel and, according to the trades, Brom Bones. Ichabod Crane and the calendar remain unfinished business.
