Production on House of David Season 3 is underway in Greece.

Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios used the start of filming to confirm that the new season will officially conclude the series.

Prime Video has not announced a premiere date.

Season 3 was renewed before it was labeled the ending

Prime Video announced the renewal in July.

At that stage, Amazon described David's next chapter — including exile and his eventual path toward kingship — without publicly identifying the season as the last.

That changed on September 18 when production began.

The distinction matters. House of David is not being cut off between seasons with its main journey unresolved. The team is filming with a known endpoint.

The creators describe the show as a trilogy

Executive producers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn have framed David's rise in three broad stages.

Season 1 was primarily David the shepherd, building toward the confrontation with Goliath.

Season 2 turned him into a warrior whose growing public status and military importance pushed him into direct conflict with King Saul.

Season 3 completes the structure with David moving through exile toward becoming king.

Gunn had already summarized that intended progression earlier in the year: shepherd, warrior, king.

The final season begins with David as an outlaw, not a ruler

The official Season 3 description does not place David on the throne immediately.

He begins the final chapter hunted and displaced.

After breaking with Saul, David has to survive in exile and hide among people who would ordinarily be considered his enemies.

The season is being built around the cost of that destiny: betrayals, abandoned identities and sacrifices made before the prophecy surrounding him can finally become political reality.

Michael Iskander returns to finish the transformation

Michael Iskander will again lead the series as David.

Ali Suliman returns as King Saul and Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam.

The returning ensemble also includes Indy Lewis as Mychal, Ethan Kai as Jonathan, Yali Topol Margalith as Mirab, Davood Ghadami as Eliab, Alex Uloom as Achish, Louis Ferreira as Jesse, Sam Otto as Eshbaal, Oded Fehr as Abner and Aury Alby as Joab.

Iskander has said that knowing this is the final season changes the emotional weight of the production after spending several years growing alongside the character.

The throne is the endpoint, not necessarily David's entire life

Calling Season 3 the finale does not mean the series intends to compress every later event associated with the biblical David into one run of episodes.

The central arc has always been more specific: how an outcast shepherd becomes the king Samuel said he would be.

Reaching the throne therefore completes this trilogy even though the biblical accounts continue far beyond David's accession.

That gives the writers a defined destination without requiring the show to become a hurried summary of an entire reign.

A planned final season avoids the unfinished-story problem

From an industry perspective, announcing the ending while production is underway gives the creative team something many streaming dramas never receive: certainty.

Relationships involving Saul, Mychal, Jonathan and David's family can now be written toward conclusions rather than held open in case another renewal arrives.

That is different from a cancellation issued after a season has already been completed with future storylines still deliberately unresolved.

Amazon and Wonder Project are presenting the decision as completion rather than interruption.

Wonder Project is still expanding beyond David

Ending House of David does not end Wonder Project's relationship with Amazon MGM Studios.

The company is already developing and releasing other faith-oriented historical productions, including The Old Stories: Moses.

House of David nevertheless remains an important early showcase for the company's attempt to build biblical stories using the scale, action and visual language of contemporary prestige epics.

The remaining mystery is when the ending arrives

Season 3 is confirmed, final and actively filming.

What Prime Video has not provided is a release window.

The first two seasons are currently available to stream while the final chapter continues production in Greece.

For a drama built around prophecy, House of David now has at least one certainty of its own: the people making it know exactly where their story ends.
