Jackie already knows how this world works
There is no lengthy origin story in the setup. Jackie is a former international drug smuggler who escaped that life, adopted a new identity and built a comfortable existence dealing fine art while constantly moving around the world.
Her problem is the Seven Demons, a group of professional assassins hired to kill her. With no immediate way to identify the person behind the contract, she decides to work through the list in the opposite direction and hunt them first.
That distinction gives the trailer much of its personality. Zeta-Jones is not playing somebody who discovers a hidden capacity for violence after being cornered. Jackie appears to know exactly what she is capable of. She simply hoped she would not need those instincts again.
The wardrobe is almost part of the action design
Kill Jackie is deliberately polished. Expensive clothes, art-world interiors and European locations sit next to guns, bodies and characters who look as though they were designed to be recognizable before they have even introduced themselves.
Damon Thomas is the lead director, with Tom Butterworth serving as writer and showrunner. AMC+ is selling the creative connection to Killing Eve and Gangs of London, and the trailer makes the comparison easy to understand without pretending the three shows are identical. Violence is sharp, but presentation matters just as much.
Daniel Ings, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Óscar Jaenada, Darci Shaw, Raff Law, Christine Adams, Bill Paterson and Ron Perlman are among the unusually large supporting cast. The trailer gives only fragments of their relationships to Jackie, leaving much of the conspiracy deliberately scrambled.
Nick Harkaway's novel gives the series a less innocent protagonist
The series adapts The Price You Pay, written by Nick Harkaway under the name Aidan Truhen. That source material gives Kill Jackie a useful starting point: its heroine does not need the audience to believe she has been unfairly dragged into a criminal universe she does not understand.
Her old career is exactly why the threat is plausible. The mystery is not whether Jackie has enemies. It is which piece of her history has finally found her.
October 2 means different services in different countries
The U.S. release belongs to AMC+, where Kill Jackie premieres on Friday, October 2 and continues weekly across its eight episodes.
Prime Video has the series in a separate group of territories including the UK, Ireland, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands, with all eight episodes scheduled there for October 2. Warner Bros. Discovery has also acquired the show for HBO Max in France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and several Nordic markets.
That fragmented distribution is unusually visible for a show with such a recognizable lead, but the marketing itself is straightforward. Catherine Zeta-Jones is Jackie Price, somebody wants Jackie dead, and the trailer strongly suggests she intends to make that arrangement extremely inconvenient.
