Michael Kelly is officially joining Landman Season 3.
Paramount+ announced on September 9 that he will play William Crockett, the leader of the world's largest oil management firm within the series.
The character description is deliberately economical. Crockett is a titan of industry, and everything about him is said to project efficiency and money.
Landman is moving further up the oil-business ladder
The series has always depended on hierarchy.
At the bottom are workers facing physical danger on rigs and drilling sites. Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy Norris lives in the uncomfortable middle, solving operational disasters while answering to people whose wealth allows them to experience the same crisis from an office.
Crockett sounds like another escalation.
Paramount has not disclosed why he enters the story, what he wants or whether he will work with or against Tommy. Even without those details, the size of his company places him in exactly the kind of corporate territory Landman has increasingly explored alongside its oilfield drama.
Michael Kelly is moving from one Sheridan power structure to another
Kelly is already part of Taylor Sheridan's Paramount+ orbit.
He plays CIA deputy director Byron Westfield on Lioness, moving from national-security bureaucracy to the upper reaches of the oil business for Landman.
It is familiar territory for an actor who spent years making quiet institutional power compelling.
His Douglas Stamper on House of Cards earned four Emmy nominations, while Jack Ryan and The Penguin subsequently kept him close to characters operating inside systems where information can matter more than physical force.
The established ensemble is staying crowded
Billy Bob Thornton remains at the center of Landman as Tommy Norris.
Paramount also lists Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter and Sam Elliott among the stars returning around him, with Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan and Colm Feore in the wider cast.
Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace co-created the series, which uses the West Texas oil boom to move between roughnecks, executives and wildcat billionaires.
That range is important. Landman is not simply about drilling. It is about who absorbs the danger, who makes the decisions and who has enough money to survive the consequences.
Season 3 was an easy renewal after Season 2's launch
Paramount+ renewed Landman for a third season in December 2025.
At the time, the service said the Season 2 premiere generated 9.2 million global streaming views in its first two days, then a record season launch for Paramount+.
That performance cemented Landman as one of the platform's major original dramas.
Kelly's casting is now one of the first concrete pieces of information about what the next season will add to that formula.
One important detail is still missing: when
Season 3 does not yet have an announced premiere date.
Paramount+'s current information lists the return as forthcoming while keeping the release date TBA.
The company has also revealed nothing about Crockett's specific relationship with Tommy, Cami or the existing oil interests around them.
For now, the casting works as a promise rather than a spoiler.
Landman is adding another layer of money to a show already obsessed with the distance between the people working the ground and the people who can afford to own it.
