A new badge has not produced a quieter life for Kayce Dutton. CBS's Season 2 trailer returns to East Camp, the piece of land Kayce kept after moving beyond the Yellowstone Ranch, and to Tom Weaver's continuing determination to take it from him.

Weaver tries money first. After Kayce rejected him last season, a representative arrives with a higher offer. Kayce's position has not moved.

Tate turns the land dispute into something else

The conflict stops looking like a property negotiation once Tate is pulled into it. Season 1 ended with Weaver revealed as a major threat, with Kayce's son abducted and members of the Marshals unit caught in a violent ambush.

Season 2 is interested in what comes after the rescue as well. Kayce notices that Tate's response to what happened feels unsettlingly restrained, giving the father-son story another problem beyond simply keeping him physically safe.

That is familiar territory for Kayce in a less familiar job. Much of his story in Yellowstone revolved around the damage that came with belonging to the Dutton family. Becoming a U.S. Marshal was never going to erase it.

The professional rules get inconvenient very quickly

Kayce now works with an elite U.S. Marshals team in Montana, drawing on both his cowboy background and his Navy SEAL training. The Season 2 premiere pushes that structure against the kind of situation most likely to break it: his own son is involved.

CBS describes the premiere as a desperate race to save Tate while the Marshals uncover a larger criminal operation connected to the East Camp land grab. The episode is titled All Hat No Cattle.

The team survives, but the fallout remains

Pete Calvin, Belle Skinner, Andrea Cruz and Miles Kittle are all part of the returning ensemble, with Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos and Tatanka Means back alongside Luke Grimes.

Andrea has another decision hanging over her. A job in Washington offers a way out, but leaving Montana and the team behind is proving less straightforward than accepting it on paper.

The Dutton story still shadows Marshals

Mo and Thomas Rainwater remain part of Kayce's circle, keeping Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham connected to the story after Yellowstone. The trailer also sends Kayce to John Dutton's grave.

It is a small image with a fairly obvious implication. Kayce may have moved out of the ranch story, but he has not escaped the family history that shaped him.

October 4 brings Kayce back

Marshals Season 2 premieres Sunday, October 4, 2026, on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+. Luke Grimes returns alongside Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brecken Merrill, Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham.
