Tickets for Avengers Endgame: Encore went on sale August 25, with the rerelease scheduled to begin September 25. The core movie remains the 2019 culmination of the Infinity Saga, now repackaged as an event positioned directly ahead of Marvel's next Avengers film.

The real new attraction comes after Endgame

Marvel says the Encore presentation includes an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18. Audiences attending IMAX or Infinity Vision-certified screenings will receive an additional sneak peek.

That timing makes Endgame useful in a way that a conventional repertory rerelease would not be. It puts Marvel's most recognizable Avengers finale back in theaters less than three months before the Russos launch another ensemble event.

There is an obvious character wrinkle as well. Endgame completed Tony Stark's story, while Doomsday brings Robert Downey Jr. back to the MCU as Doctor Doom. Marvel does not need to rewrite the older film for that contrast to become part of the new marketing context.

Disney also has a premium-screen format to introduce

Encore is being used as an early showcase for Infinity Vision, Disney's certification for Premium Large Format auditoriums. The label is intended to identify theaters meeting presentation standards around screen scale, image brightness and sound.

IMAX remains part of the release as well, and both IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings receive the extra Doomsday preview. Avengers: Doomsday is also being promoted through Infinity Vision, giving Disney two major Marvel releases with which to establish the label.

Endgame has done this before

Marvel previously returned Endgame to theaters in June 2019 through its Bring Back Event. That version offered an Anthony Russo introduction, an unfinished deleted scene and a Spider-Man: Far From Home preview.

Encore follows a familiar idea but places considerably more weight on what comes next. Endgame is now being used to reopen the Avengers theatrical conversation before Doomsday arrives on December 18.
