The final season has a very specific problem to solve
Prime Video released the teaser on September 3 and confirmed that all six episodes of the third and final season will premiere on December 9, 2026 in more than 240 countries and territories.
Harriet Herbig-Matten returns as Ruby and Damian Hardung as James. Rather than separating them immediately for another round of romantic uncertainty, the official setup has the pair working together to prove Ruby's innocence after her suspension from Maxton Hall College.
That matters because Oxford has been built into Ruby's character from the beginning. It represents the future she has planned through academic work and discipline, distinct from the wealth and family power surrounding James Beaufort.
Season 3 threatens that plan directly. Prime Video also says the search for the truth will test friendships and uncover secrets neither Ruby nor James expected.
Save Us gives the adaptation a natural stopping point
The season is based on Save Us, the third installment in Mona Kasten's bestselling trilogy. That makes the television structure unusually tidy: Save Me fed the first season, Save You the second, and the final book now supplies the final chapter.
There is no need for the show to pretend the story has an open-ended future. Prime Video is explicitly marketing these episodes as the conclusion of Ruby and James' story.
For a streaming hit, that certainty changes the job of the season. The remaining character arcs, family conflicts and Oxford storyline all have six episodes to reach an actual destination rather than another renewal-friendly stopping point.
The wider Maxton Hall cast is coming back with them
Sonja Weißer returns as Lydia, Eidin Jalali as Graham, Ben Felipe as Cyril and Fedja van Huêt as Mortimer. Runa Greiner, Justus Riesner, Govinda Gabriel, Andrea Guo, Frederic Balonier, Eli Riccardi and Dagny Dewath are also returning.
Martin Schreier is back as director. Sandra Stöckmann and Ceylan Yildirim serve as head writers, with Catharina Junk, Marlene Melchior and Aylin Kockler also writing for the season. UFA Fiction remains the production company behind the German Prime Video Original.
Prime Video is ending a series that became much larger than its home market
Amazon now describes Maxton Hall as the most successful scripted International Original in Prime Video history. That makes the decision to advertise Season 3 as a genuine ending more notable than it would be for a modest three-season drama.
The adaptation could easily have become the kind of streaming success encouraged to keep extending itself. Instead, its basic architecture still follows Kasten's trilogy.
The last six episodes arrive on December 9.
