The Verge directly verified the unusual availability. Reporter Dominic Preston was able to play the full one-hour-and-35-minute movie on Prime Video US before the title was switched to unavailable. This was not a short preview appearing under the wrong label.
The listing itself was already populated with a thumbnail, cast information and a synopsis. From the customer's side of the service, Mutiny looked like a playable movie in the catalog.
The theatrical plan never changed
Lionsgate's US release remains dated August 21, while the movie's official marketing has continued to point audiences toward theaters. France is a useful complication to the headline: SND opened Mutiny there on August 19, so the Prime Video appearance did not precede every theatrical release worldwide. It did precede the American one.
That territorial distinction matters for a film being launched across several markets within a few days. A digital copy becoming publicly playable in one territory does not automatically rewrite those separate cinema dates, and there has been no announcement that Lionsgate has altered the US plan.
What caused the Prime Video appearance is still unknown
There is no confirmed account of the failure behind the incident. The Verge said it had contacted Amazon for comment, but no public explanation was available. There is therefore no factual basis for assigning the episode to a scheduling mistake, a publishing workflow problem or any other specific technical cause.
There is also no evidence supporting the theory that this was a deliberate publicity stunt. Mutiny comes from MadRiver Pictures and Punch Palace Productions, with Lionsgate handling US distribution, and the early Prime Video access was removed rather than turned into an announced release.
