Seven years after its original run, Avengers: Endgame can apparently still fill theaters. Disney estimates that the Encore rerelease opened to $86 million worldwide, pushing the movie's lifetime total to roughly $2.885 billion and putting Avatar within striking distance once again.
Avengers: Endgame is back in theaters as though 2019 never entirely ended. The Encore edition earned $3.8 million from North American Thursday previews and is currently projected to make more than $25 million over the weekend. Marvel is not simply putting its former box-office champion back on screens, however. Endgame has been rebuilt into a direct runway for Avengers: Doomsday, due December 18, with additional material designed specifically to connect the old event movie to the new one.
