Electronic Arts in 2026: after the $55 billion buyout, where do EA and its licenses stand?
Electronic Arts has changed owners without changing the fundamental shape of its business. The PIF, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners consortium completed its roughly $55 billion acquisition on August 4, taking EA off the public market. Underneath that corporate change sits a portfolio built from two very different ingredients. EA can describe Battlefield as wholly owned IP. Madden NFL, EA SPORTS FC, F1, NHL, UFC, Star Wars and Iron Man all require outside rights in one form or another. That distinction matters more now that the company is private, more leveraged and less transparent.
