Active Matter: when military realism finally lets the impossible in
Active Matter works because it refuses to choose between the ordinary and the impossible. A magazine, flashlight and tactical vest remain reassuringly physical; a few metres later, architecture can stop obeying gravity. Matter Team does not always turn that superb material into equally strong narrative drama, but the world already has a texture and presence many extraction shooters never find. Music, lighting and anomalous phenomena carry much of the storytelling instead of cutscenes. The setting lingers longer than the plot, and that is hardly a small achievement.
