AION 2 Brings Atreia Back Beautifully, but Its World Says More Than Its Characters
AION 2 succeeds primarily by making a new Atreia feel tangible. Separate Elyos and Asmodian narratives, enormous regions, renewed faction conflict and flight as a central form of movement give the world an immediate identity. That achievement contrasts with a far more conventional main campaign, where several critics found the cast forgettable and quest objectives repetitive. Paradoxically, the game often feels more alive when it stops telling its official story: meeting other players, exploring by air, customizing a Daeva or preparing for group conflict creates more memorable narrative than many scripted quest conversations. It is very much an MMO, for better and worse.
