Beast of Reincarnation: an emotionless woman, a blighted dog and a story critics cannot agree on

Beast of Reincarnation has a more interesting story than its execution is consistently able to support. Japan in 4026, machines burdened with memories and especially the contradiction between Emma and Koo give Game Freak real thematic material. Animation, repetition and the choice of a deliberately hollow protagonist create a distance many critics never overcome. The game is most affecting when it stays close to its dog and its smaller stories about the end of the world.
