Big Walk: House House made a game where conversation is the real open world

Big Walk turns something games usually treat as connective tissue — spending time together — into the main subject. Its island, proximity chat and awkward bodies create less of an amusement park than a shared place. The experience depends heavily on the friends brought into it, but that is also the game's most coherent idea: House House is not merely selling puzzles, it is creating conditions for something to happen between players.

PROS

Distinctive vision of social play
Excellent cultural and mechanical use of proximity chat
Striking Australian-inspired landscapes

CONS

Highly dependent on group availability and chemistry
Players seeking constant activity may find traversal slow
