Our review

Borderlands 4 stopped screaming its jokes, but it does not always know what to say instead

By Vever

Borderlands 4 successfully detoxes after the exhausting Borderlands 3. The humor breathes, Kairos feels like a place and the Timekeeper provides a more interesting presence than the previous game's caricatures. But in removing so much noise, Gearbox also sands away some of the edges that made its best characters unforgettable. 7/10.

PROS

Kairos has a more coherent identity than many previous settings
Humor is far less intrusive than in Borderlands 3
Returning characters are used more carefully

CONS

Several new characters lack definition
The protagonist's personal motivation fades too quickly
