Eternal Return: beneath the MOBA, a remarkably effective character factory
Eternal Return tells less of a conventional grand narrative than it builds a collection of figures whose voice, weapon and movement become recognizable before their biography does. That is primarily an art-direction success rather than traditional storytelling. Lumia Island functions as a stage for the cast, while the newer Test Subject Records finally provide more substance for players who want to look beyond the matches. Cosmetics and effect-heavy combat can sometimes turn personality into noise, but once the cast starts moving, Eternal Return is remarkably difficult to mistake for anything else.
