Our review

Genshin Impact — six years later, Teyvat has become far more interesting than its hero

By Vever

Genshin Impact has built a better world than the narrative structure used to tell its story. HoYoverse has created religions, languages, ruins, myths and political crises capable of sustaining years of theorycrafting, then routinely traps them inside conversations twice as long as necessary. Its best chapters still explain the loyalty: when a nation, its characters and its music finally converge, Genshin can deliver genuinely grand fantasy adventure. The Traveler simply deserved to become as interesting as the world they cross.

PROS

Exceptionally broad world-building
Regions increasingly possess distinct cultural and visual identities
A huge cast of immediately recognizable characters

CONS

Dialogue routinely takes far too long to communicate simple information
The Traveler remains oddly passive within their own story
