How to Fish review: the five-dollar “friendslop” is becoming a genre of its own
How to Fish belongs to a generation of games whose real main menu almost exists on Discord. Their strength is not keeping one player occupied every day for years, but providing a rule anyone can understand and letting a group destroy it together. Selling one million copies in two days and passing 370,000 concurrent players shows how commercially powerful that formula has become. Dazed Games is smart enough to give the joke sufficient progression to survive beyond the first viral clip. How to Fish is short, shallow and dramatically weaker alone. Those limitations are also part of what makes it so easy for a group to adopt.
