PUBG: the game that normalised battle royale still refuses to become an amusement park
PUBG is now old enough to borrow ideas from the industry it helped transform. UGC, co-op projects and new modes reveal Krafton's ambition to build a broader platform. Yet the reason the game retains an identity remains almost exactly the same as in 2017: long periods where nothing happens make one sudden bullet extraordinarily important. PUBG is more cluttered, harder to enter and less pure than it once was. It nevertheless remains one of the few battle royales where silence is genuinely part of the spectacle.
