Resident Evil Requiem: returning to Raccoon City without quite knowing how to say goodbye
Resident Evil Requiem is far more interesting when Raccoon City is treated as a wound rather than a catalogue of references. Grace Ashcroft gives the story a genuinely fresh perspective, while Leon carries all the weight of the past. The tension between them provides the strongest narrative material, even if Capcom cannot always resist celebrating its own mythology.
PROS
Grace Ashcroft is an excellent new protagonist
Angela Sant'Albano makes her fear convincing
Raccoon City's return is often used intelligently
CONS
Second half relies more heavily on fan service
Broader plot can become clumsy
