Splatoon Raiders: the best new Splatoon game is also the least strange

Splatoon Raiders is a better game than parts of its writing. Its PvE loop gives remarkable new life to weapons, ink and Salmonids, but the treasure plot and conventional progression structure make surprisingly cautious use of a universe that was rarely afraid to be strange. Deep Cut preserves some of that personality without receiving enough material. Nintendo has found an excellent new shape for Splatoon; now it needs to make the world as strange as the mechanics again.

PROS

Deep Cut remains immediately likeable
Spirhalite has a distinct identity from the series' cities
Ink translates brilliantly into PvE

CONS

Very light central story
Deep Cut is narratively underused
