DRECOM CREATORS STUDIO added Chill Planet to its first publishing lineup on September 2. Japanese indie collective aozorite is developing the PC game for release in 2027.

Its next public appearance will be an updated playable build at Tokyo Game Show.

The meteor has already settled the big question

Hinako is a high-school student when news of the incoming meteor reaches the world. School closes as the disaster approaches, and she decides to spend the remaining time travelling north.

The destination is Hokkaido, as far from her home in Kyushu as the journey can reasonably take her.

Mei Akasaka, Ruri Misumi and Midori Shimabukuro eventually join the trip. Each arrives with a very different personality and a different relationship to the strange freedom created by a world with no long-term future left.

The apocalypse is deliberately quiet

Drecom is selling the contrast more than the catastrophe itself. Chill Planet's defining tone is calm, with ordinary conversations and small pleasures continuing while everyone already knows what is coming.

The full game will even include camping. Players can gather equipment during the journey and use those stops to spend more time with the group.

It is difficult to imagine a less urgent response to planetary extinction, which is very much the point.

aozorite is rebuilding how the journey looks

The development team says earlier builds did not communicate the feeling of travelling strongly enough. Its answer is a substantial presentation update.

The travelling sequence is shifting from 2D animation to low-poly 3D characters placed against illustrated scenery. Backgrounds change with location, and card choices now produce additional visual effects and character reactions.

The interface has been redesigned at the same time so route information remains visible without covering most of the scenery.

Cards decide how the memories accumulate

Underneath the road-trip framing, Chill Planet is still a deck-building adventure. Detours through real locations provide items, those items strengthen builds, and route choices determine how much can be seen before the group reaches Hokkaido.

The mechanical language is optimisation. The narrative language is memory.

Steam describes the story as one about enjoying a joyful ending to the very last moment. Chill Planet will be playable at DRECOM CREATORS STUDIO's Tokyo Game Show booth from September 17 through 21, with its PC release planned for 2027.
