CHEEKY CHEERHYTHM does not have an exact date yet. It is simply scheduled for Steam in 2027. Its first composer announcement already gives the project a much stranger cultural footprint than its scale would suggest.
Silver Sprout Studio and Yabukaradoo have recruited musicians associated with very different periods of Japanese game history, all contributing newly written material rather than licensed catalogue tracks.
Secret of Mana meets Megami Tensei
Hiroki Kikuta's name remains closely tied to the sound of 1990s Square through Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana. Tsukasa Masuko represents another foundational RPG lineage through Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei.
Putting both names in a single credits list would already be enough to get game-music enthusiasts looking twice.
The rest of the roster makes it stranger.
Panzer Dragoon, Basiscape and rhythm-game culture join in
Saori Kobayashi brings credits including Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta. Mitsuhiro Kaneda and Yoshimi Kudo connect the lineup to more recent works including 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Unicorn Overlord, GITADORA and Raiden V.
Hige Driver, Manbo-P, Prof. Sakamoto and mewlist pull the soundtrack toward rhythm games, Vocaloid culture, chiptune performance and independent music. Yoshiki Ara is responsible for the main theme and additional music.
The developer calls this only the first wave of credits.
And all of it is supporting a cheerleading comedy
The premise itself is deliberately smaller and sillier than those résumés suggest. Players coach Iroha Shishikura, a proud high-school student learning cheer dance.
Two gyro motion controllers function as pom-poms. Rhythm accuracy drives Iroha's Live2D animation in real time, turning physical movement into part of the character performance.
Voice actor Hinata Yuka has recorded more than 600 lines for Iroha, many built around teasing the player regardless of how accurately the routine is performed.
A compact collision of Japanese game subcultures
Asanagi provides the character design. Physical rhythm mechanics bring in one tradition, Live2D character interaction another, while the soundtrack pulls names from RPGs, shooters, arcade music games, Vocaloid and chiptune.
None of those pieces are particularly obscure on their own. Their combination is.
CHEEKY CHEERHYTHM is playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 and remains scheduled for Steam in 2027.
