Apple TV has officially renewed Slow Horses for Season 8. The new run will consist of six episodes and Gary Oldman will return as Jackson Lamb.

That confirmation arrives while viewers are only beginning Season 6. Season 7 had already been announced, meaning Apple now has two further installments committed beyond the episodes currently streaming.

Clown Town is next on Slough House's reading list

Season 8 will adapt Clown Town, the ninth main novel in Mick Herron's Slough House series. The television drama continues to draw directly from Herron's books even as its adaptation pattern becomes a little less rigid than it was during the early seasons.

Season 6 combines material from Joe Country and Slough House rather than dedicating an entire season to one novel. The eighth run will move on to the much more recent Clown Town.

Apple has also disclosed the core conflict. Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner will collide after a failed attempt to blackmail the Park sends Taverner onto the offensive. Lamb is then forced to uncover one of MI5's darkest secrets.

Ben Vanstone takes on the adaptation

Ben Vanstone will adapt and executive produce Season 8, while Adam Randall is set to return as director. See-Saw Films continues to produce the series for Apple TV.

Oldman's involvement is the only major piece of Season 8 casting Apple has explicitly highlighted so far. The broader ensemble has not yet been detailed, and that leaves plenty unresolved given how enthusiastically Slow Horses moves characters into danger.

Its production rhythm has become part of the show's identity

One of Slow Horses' stranger achievements is simply how often it returns. Expensive streaming dramas increasingly disappear for long stretches between seasons; this series has maintained a much steadier rhythm while repeatedly moving the next installment into production before the current one is finished airing.

Having Herron's novels as a framework clearly helps. Slough House comes with an established world, recurring relationships and a supply of espionage plots that can be reworked rather than invented from scratch every year.

The television series is now getting close to the front of that queue. Clown Town was published in 2025 and is currently the ninth main Slough House novel.

Season 6 is still only getting started

There is plenty of television to get through before Season 8 arrives. Season 6 premiered on September 16, 2026 and is releasing weekly through October 21, while the already announced seventh season sits between it and the newly ordered episodes.

Apple has not announced a premiere date for Season 8.
