Sid Baker has spent most of Slow Horses as an unresolved absence. Apple has now made her return explicit: Olivia Cooke appears in the Season 6 trailer, is included in the official cast announcement and features in Apple's first-look material for the new episodes.
That makes the reveal more substantial than a flashback or brief callback. Sid is entering a season in which Slough House itself appears to be under unusual pressure.
The Slow Horses are the ones running this time
Apple's official premise says the team goes on the run as Diana Taverner draws them into a deadly game of retaliation and revenge. Kristin Scott Thomas returns as Taverner, with Gary Oldman once again leading the cast as Jackson Lamb and Jack Lowden playing River Cartwright.
That premise reflects how far the series has moved from its original workplace humiliation. Slough House remains MI5's dumping ground, but its supposed failures have become increasingly entangled with decisions made much higher up the organisation.
Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Rosalind Eleazar, Joanna Scanlan, Samuel West, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Jonathan Pryce and Hugo Weaving are also returning. Lenny Rush joins the ensemble for Season 6.
Two Mick Herron novels feed one season
The six episodes adapt Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh novels in Mick Herron's book series. That combination gives the television season material from two consecutive books rather than treating the new run as a simple one-volume adaptation.
Gaby Chiappe adapted the season for television, while Adam Randall returns to direct. See-Saw Films continues to produce the series for Apple TV.
Sid's absence was never entirely clean
Cooke's character was one of River's earliest Slough House colleagues before her story was violently interrupted in the first season. Later clues kept her ultimate fate from becoming completely straightforward, even as the television series moved through several new cases without her.
Apple is not yet explaining where Sid has been or exactly how her return connects to Taverner's new conflict. The trailer is content to confirm that River will see her again.
September 16 begins another six-week run
Slow Horses Season 6 premieres globally on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Apple will release one episode each week, with the finale scheduled for October 21.
The first five seasons are already streaming on Apple TV. Season 5 later earned nine Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and acting nominations for Oldman and Lowden.
Season 6 therefore arrives with an established formula, a largely familiar ensemble and one character who has been missing since the show was still introducing Slough House.
