The Perfect Lie: A Stylish Dinner Party With Less Depth Than Its Secrets Promise
The Perfect Lie succeeds at its most immediate task: making the next episode difficult to resist. The setting is gorgeous, the central cast holds the table together and the interrogation structure keeps redistributing suspicion at exactly the right moments. It becomes less convincing when those suspicions should evolve into genuinely layered portraits. Behind the beautiful houses and terrible decisions, several members of the group still feel more like folders full of secrets than fully lived-in characters. It is a very watchable and occasionally gripping thriller whose main shortcoming is the depth it spends seven episodes promising.
