Lanterns — its greatest power is still the friction between Hal Jordan and John Stewart
Lanterns works because it does not try to repair Green Lantern's live-action reputation simply by adding more green light. It builds Hal Jordan and John Stewart as two men who understand each other well enough to know exactly how to irritate one another, then uses the mystery and mythology to test that relationship. The season stumbles when it stretches its mystery or over-explains its themes, but its central duo, supporting cast and unusual collision of rural crime drama with science fiction give it a personality the DCU was wise to let breathe.
PROS
Excellent chemistry between Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre
John Stewart receives far more development than a simple successor role
Strong supporting ensemble, particularly Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan
CONS
Uneven pacing through several middle episodes
Timeline shifts can be more disruptive than illuminating
