Rick and Morty, nine seasons later: it finally learned how to grow without becoming tame
Rick and Morty is no longer the show that seems to reinvent adult animation every few weeks, and it no longer has to be. By Season 9, its more interesting achievement is quieter: it can still build absurd new universes while allowing Rick, Morty, Summer, Beth and Jerry to change inside them. Across nine seasons the quality is inevitably uneven, and its appetite for meta commentary can still exhaust itself. But Season 9 confirms a genuine resurgence. The series has survived its own cultural overexposure, major voice changes and several creative dips. More importantly, it has become genuinely interesting again.
