There are now two very different levels of certainty surrounding The Gentlemen Season 3.

Variety reported on August 22 that Meghan Markle was in very early talks to join the Netflix series. No contract had been signed and no potential character was identified.

At that point, Netflix had not formally ordered Season 3 either.

Netflix has now officially renewed The Gentlemen

That uncertainty is gone.

Netflix has confirmed an eight-episode third season, with Guy Ritchie returning as creator, writer, director and executive producer.

The renewal arrived around the launch of Season 2, which began streaming on September 3.

Ritchie said the show's ambition and world had expanded enough that a third season felt inevitable.

Markle's involvement remains unconfirmed

The renewal does not turn the earlier casting report into an announcement.

Industry reporting after the Season 3 greenlight indicated that the new episodes were still in pre-production, scripts had not been finalized and new casting decisions had not been locked.

Netflix and Markle's representatives declined to comment when the initial talks were reported.

Netflix's subsequent official Season 3 announcements do not list her as a cast member.

The distinction is therefore clear: Season 3 is confirmed. Meghan Markle is not.

It would be a much larger acting return than her upcoming cameo

The interest is partly driven by how long Markle has been away from conventional scripted acting.

She played Rachel Zane across seven seasons of Suits from 2011 to 2018 before largely stepping away from acting.

She is already expected to make a limited screen return in Amazon MGM's comedy Close Personal Friends, alongside Brie Larson and Lily Collins, appearing as herself.

A role in The Gentlemen would represent something substantially different: a written fictional character inside an ongoing drama, with at least the possibility of becoming part of the series beyond a cameo.

She already has a Netflix relationship, just not through The Gentlemen

Markle is not new to Netflix as a business partner.

Through Archewell Productions, she and Prince Harry have worked with the streamer on projects including Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus and With Love, Meghan.

That existing relationship makes the possibility of a Netflix acting role less unexpected, but it does not establish any connection to The Gentlemen's casting process.

Ritchie's series is produced by Moonage Pictures and Miramax Television for Netflix, separately from Archewell's productions.

Season 2 already proved the series can absorb a much larger ensemble

The structure of The Gentlemen gives Ritchie plenty of room to introduce new players.

Theo James continues to lead the series as Eddie Horniman alongside Kaya Scodelario's Susie Glass. Season 2 expanded the ensemble with Hugh Bonneville, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Benjamin Clementine and Maya Jama, among others.

The story also widened beyond the English estate, taking Eddie and Susie's criminal business into Italy and deeper into British political power.

That leaves obvious space for additional characters in Season 3 without revealing anything about what kind of part Markle might be discussing.

Only half of the original rumor has become concrete

The timeline is the useful part of the story.

The original report contained two uncertainties: whether The Gentlemen would actually get another season and whether Markle would sign.

Netflix has now answered the first question. Season 3 is real and Guy Ritchie is preparing the next stage of Eddie Horniman's criminal rise.

The second still needs the things that turn a rumor into casting news: a deal, a character and an announcement.
