Neagley began streaming on September 16 in more than 240 countries and territories. Prime Video released the complete eight-episode season at once rather than following Reacher's weekly schedule.

The timing is deliberate. The spin-off launched on the same day as the Reacher Season 4 finale, allowing one show to hand viewers directly into the other.

Frances Neagley finally gets the investigation to herself

Maria Sten returns as Frances Neagley, the former member of the Army's 110th Special Investigations Unit who became one of Jack Reacher's most trusted allies. She now works as a private investigator in Chicago.

Her new case begins with the death of Tommy, a childhood friend who is killed after walking into the path of a train. Police are prepared to treat the incident as an apparent accident. Neagley is not.

The investigation pulls her into a larger conspiracy and, more importantly for the series, gives the character a chance to operate without Reacher directing every stage of the mission.

Reacher appears, but this is no longer his investigation

Alan Ritchson does guest star as Jack Reacher, maintaining a direct link to the parent series. Prime Video is not pretending the two shows are unrelated, but Reacher's appearance is support rather than the foundation of the plot.

Neagley was an obvious character to test this with. She has returned across multiple seasons of Reacher while many supporting characters rotate with each new book adaptation, and the series has consistently positioned her as one of the few people Reacher trusts without reservation.

That expansion is moving into publishing as well. Lee Child and Yasmin Angoe are scheduled to release Zero Margin in March 2027, the first novel built specifically around Frances Neagley.

The spin-off changes the usual Reacher adaptation model

Reacher generally builds each season around one of Lee Child's existing novels. Neagley is different. It uses Child's character and established world while developing an original television story around her.

Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton created the series and serve as co-showrunners. Santora's involvement keeps the television expansion tied directly to the creative team behind Reacher rather than handing the spin-off to an unrelated production group.

Lee Child, Don Granger, Sam Hill, Adam Higgs and Lisa Kussner are among the executive producers. Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios produce the series.

Greyston Holt plays Detective Hudson Riley, Adeline Rudolph appears as Renee Birdwhistle, Jasper Jones plays Keno, Matthew Del Negro is Pierce Woodrow and Damon Herriman plays Lawrence Cole.

Directors on the first season include Sam Hill, Gary Fleder, Phil Abraham and MJ Bassett.

The setup also gives Neagley a noticeably different shape from its parent series. Reacher is defined by constant movement and almost total freedom from permanent attachments. Neagley has a profession, a city and a personal history that can follow her from episode to episode.

Prime Video is testing how far the Reacher brand can stretch

Amazon had already renewed Reacher for a fifth season before Neagley launched, so the spin-off is an expansion rather than a replacement. Both series can continue alongside each other if the strategy works.

That makes Neagley the first real test of Reacher as a television franchise instead of a single hit show. The parent title can still supply recognition, but the new series has to prove that viewers are interested in this world when Alan Ritchson is no longer the person at the center of every fight and investigation.

All eight episodes are streaming now. For the first time, the world of Reacher is asking audiences to follow someone other than Reacher.
