Prime Video has opted not to continue Spider-Noir beyond its first eight episodes. The decision comes just over three months after the live-action Marvel series debuted through MGM+ and Prime Video.
Cage responded after the cancellation became public, saying that one season was “perfect” for what he wanted to do with this version of the character.
He described his Spider-Man as dangerous, innovative and pop-art driven. There was no public plea for another streamer to rescue it and no suggestion that the project had been cut off before reaching its intended destination.
The cancellation arrived with awards season already underway
Spider-Noir did not leave quietly. The series entered this year's Emmy race with 11 nominations, the highest total for any Prime Video program in 2026.
Those nominations cover production design, cinematography, title design, prosthetic makeup, score, original music and lyrics, sound, visual effects and stunt work.
Its audience was not negligible either. Nielsen data cited by Variety recorded roughly 2.6 billion viewing minutes during the show's first six weeks in the United States.
Prime Video has not provided a detailed public explanation for why that combination of reception, awards recognition and viewership did not justify another season.
Cage had already treated the season as self-contained
His reaction makes more sense in light of comments made before the cancellation. Cage had previously argued that the season worked on its own whether a continuation happened or not.
The finale helps that interpretation. Spider-Noir leaves room for more stories without ending on the kind of unresolved cliffhanger that turns cancellation into an immediate narrative problem.
For Cage, that seems to be enough.
Eight episodes for one of Marvel's stranger television experiments
The show cast Cage as Ben Reilly, a worn-down private investigator in Depression-era New York who had abandoned his former life as the city's masked superhero, The Spider.
Its most distinctive presentation choice was not hidden in the production notes. Prime Video allowed viewers to watch the full season either in color or in an alternate black-and-white version designed to push the noir aesthetic much further.
Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson co-starred. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot served as showrunners, with executive producers including Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal and Cage.
Sony and Amazon are not abandoning their Marvel deal
Spider-Noir's cancellation does not end the wider partnership between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for television projects based on Marvel characters connected to Spider-Man.
The series was ultimately the first project from that arrangement to reach viewers after Silk: Spider Society was scrapped during development.
Another series is already being developed under the same partnership and is expected to be revealed later.
That gives Spider-Noir an unusual legacy: a well-reviewed, Emmy-nominated first step for a television strategy that will apparently continue without the show that launched it.
Cage seems comfortable leaving his version of The Spider right there.
