A renewal two weeks before the next season

Paramount+ announced the pickup on September 3. Season 2 does not premiere until September 18, making this an unusually early public commitment to another run of the series.

Hardy will return as Harrigan fixer Harry Da Souza. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are also set to remain as family patriarch Conrad Harrigan and matriarch Maeve Harrigan.

Those names matter because the renewal arrives after a surprisingly public stretch of uncertainty surrounding Hardy.

Hardy's exit went from reported to reversed

In May, industry reports said Hardy was expected to leave after Season 2 following behind-the-scenes friction during production. Variety subsequently reported that he had not been fired and that discussions about a possible return were still taking place.

By late June, the story had shifted again. Multiple trade publications reported that meetings involving Hardy and members of the production team had produced a path forward. Guy Ritchie, an executive producer on MobLand, was reported to have helped facilitate those conversations.

The distinction is important now. Paramount+ is no longer leaving Hardy's involvement to unnamed sources or conditional reporting. Its Season 3 announcement explicitly places him back beside Brosnan and Mirren.

Paramount+ is treating MobLand as a long-term asset

The early order also reflects how quickly MobLand became valuable to the service. Paramount described the first season as its second-biggest original-series launch, behind Landman, and a writers' room for a potential third season was already operating before the formal renewal.

Waiting for Season 2 audience data would have been the conservative option. Paramount+ has chosen continuity instead, keeping its three marquee stars attached while the next ten episodes are still waiting to reach viewers.

Season 2 still has to create the road to Season 3

The second season begins with the Harrigan empire under pressure. Paramount's synopsis says the family struggles to present a unified front as new rivals move against it, leaving Harry to manage increasingly dangerous tensions inside the organization.

Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon and Jasmine Jobson are among the returning cast, with Janet McTeer and Toby Jones also appearing in the season.

Episodes will arrive weekly from September 18 through November 20. Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date for Season 3.
