The Blood of Dawnwalker became a million-selling game during its opening weekend.

Rebel Wolves announced the milestone on September 5 following the September 3 launch across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

No platform-by-platform sales split has been released.

For Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco, the more important consequence is that a word used around the project since its early days — saga — now has actual customers behind it.

The sequel plan has turned into a hiring process

Narrative director and co-founder Jakub Szamałek is recruiting a Lead Writer to help build the next chapter in the Dawnwalker saga.

The speed sounds remarkable, but the ambition itself is older than launch week.

Bandai Namco described The Blood of Dawnwalker as the opening chapter of a saga when its publishing partnership with Rebel Wolves was announced in 2024.

The million-copy launch did not invent the franchise strategy.

It made that strategy much easier to fund and defend.

Rebel Wolves still has not formally announced The Blood of Dawnwalker 2

There is an important distinction between staffing a continuation and revealing a sequel.

No official title, release window, budget or platform list has been announced for the next chapter.

Rebel Wolves has not publicly detailed how large the follow-up team currently is either.

The confirmed point is narrower: narrative planning is underway, and the studio is hiring senior writing talent for it.

The first game had to prove the studio was more than its résumés

Rebel Wolves was founded in 2022 by developers with substantial CD Projekt experience. CEO Konrad Tomaszkiewicz previously directed The Witcher 3 and worked on Cyberpunk 2077.

That pedigree gave the company instant attention.

It also meant Dawnwalker spent much of development being discussed through comparisons with another studio's games.

Sales now give Rebel Wolves a metric that belongs entirely to Rebel Wolves.

Bandai Namco may have acquired an important new Western RPG property

Bandai Namco is publishing The Blood of Dawnwalker globally across its current platforms.

For a publisher with major Japanese franchises and a broad network of external partnerships, a successful original Western RPG series would be a useful addition to the portfolio.

One million sales does not guarantee that outcome. Production costs, long-tail performance and the reception of future games will matter far more than one launch milestone.

It does, however, give a potential second installment a healthy starting argument.

The next business test begins after launch week

Dawnwalker is currently benefiting from the strongest visibility window of its commercial life: fresh reviews, launch marketing, curiosity around a new studio and concentrated early purchases.

Long-term sales will provide the more useful measure.

Rebel Wolves also has technical work to complete. PC players have reported stuttering, crashes and other issues, and the studio has already released an initial post-launch hotfix.

How well it supports the first game will influence how much goodwill carries into the second.

A new name has entered the large-RPG market

Plenty of studios describe their first project as the beginning of a universe, trilogy or saga.

The market usually gets the final vote on whether that sentence survives.

Rebel Wolves has received its first encouraging answer.

The next Dawnwalker has not formally been unveiled, but the studio is already looking for someone to help write it.
